Wonder if Yamamoto had survived if the nukes could have been prevented, either by urging the Emperor to surrender earlier or by defending airspace more effectively.

The reason people called this immoral was not necessarily because it was wrong to do, but because it was an unwritten rule/courtesy. The only real reason not to do it was because you didn’t want someone to do it to you.

You need to read his book. He didn't simply gain weight because he couldn't drink. He lost weight. Going below 100 pounds. He only gained weight when he got a job in the kitchen where he stole food. He ate handfulls of pure lard. Pig fat. and that's how he gained weight, not from not drinking.

TJ Thank you for putting in some unmentioned parts of the Air Battles during WW2. I’ve watched your video several times and read many of the comments. The amount of detail never mentioned, such as Yamamotos funeral and years later the few remaining Brave Pilots having respect for each other and shaking hands. Despite the brutality of War, both Countries are able to put this terrible time of War to part of History. I think that you have done an Excellent Account of Pride and Courage, without making this a one sided story. Hopefully History will teach the World that War should be a last resort ???

My guess is that repeated head trauma triggered PTSD. Also depression fits the facts as well. Unfortunately, many PTSD and depressed victims use alcohol, which tends to make the situation much worse.

7:34 - WTaF??? How is this a historical account when you contradict yourself? You give FOUR of the six Japanese pilots two different ranks each, at 2:34 and at 6:59. Were Kenji Yanagiya and Shoichi Sugita Flyers 1st Class or Petty Officers? Was Toyomitsu Tsujinoue a Chief Petty Officer or a Petty Officer? And, was Yasui Okazaki a Petty Officer First Class or a Petty Officer? THEN, at 28:31, you list Shoichi Sugita's date of death as April 15, 1945, but at 29:05, the graphic incorrectly shows it as June 7, 1943. In addition, you keep pronouncing Yasui Okazaki's given name as if it was "Yasushi." WRONG! His name is pronounced "ya-SOO-ee." That is ALL very sloppy reporting.

Thank you for correctly proving that Germany was NOT soley responsible for starting WW1! Now it needs to be shown that the very harsh conditions of The Treaty of Versailles placed on Germany for soley starting WW1 paved the way for the madman Hitler to rise to power and a more even evil and brutal war in September of 1939!

Pity about the graphics. Extra Joker was B-24H-30-FO 42-95379, The graphics show B-24Ds and formations have mixed markings of both 15th and 8th Air Forces - something which never happened. The H-30-FOs were unpainted/natural metal finish (NMF to the modelling fraternity) while Thunder Mug was B-24H-1-FO 42-7475 and WAS painted Olive Drab/Neutral Grey. The "Circle-B" marking in the graphics is actually that of the 93rd BG (8th AF).

So many young heroes died, and we will never hear their story's. My dad was with Uncle George (as he called) as a tank commander and part-time gunner with the third Army. We were mowing the church lawn one fall Saturday and out of the blue. He says 10 years ago today, I was put in a body bag in France. What's a kid say ? I got the rest of the story many years later. 5:57
